Medina Ilyas, a cultural explorer and author, has dedicated her life to preserving the heritage of Arabic coffee. Seventeen years ago, upon moving to Oman, she was introduced to Arabic coffee by her future mother-in-law—a transformative experience that sparked a deep curiosity. Originally from Kazakhstan, Medina quickly immersed herself in the Arab world, uncovering the cultural significance of Arabic coffee as a symbol of hospitality and unity. With over 700 documented Arabic coffee recipes, Medina has spent 15 years traveling the Middle East, collecting unique recipes, and documenting traditions. Her passion for cultural immersion has also led her to connect with indigenous communities worldwide and study various cultural rituals, such as the Japanese tea ceremony. Today, as a connoisseur and mother of three, she views Arabic coffee not just as a drink, but as a rich tapestry of stories and heritage to be preserved and celebrated.
