Friday 19/1 - Writing About Architecture: A Workshop

 Date: Friday, January 19, 2024

Time: 11 AM

Duration: 90 minutes

Venue: Kutubna Cultural Center

Madina Avenues, Nadd Al Hamar, Dubai.

Registration fee: 100 AED

This workshop examines the opportunities of using creative writing when writing about architecture, and transversely, finding inspiration for writing in our built environment. Participants will be provided with creative writing techniques and will have the opportunity to write a short piece during the session.

The workshop will be divided into two parts. In the first part, participants will explore writing tools and look at examples of how storytelling can reflect on architecture. In the second part, participants will examine photos, images, drawings, or other visual material and work on a writing exercise related to this visual material.

Yosr El Sherbiny is a renaissance soul with a passion for writing, curating content, and managing programs. She thrives on the challenge of dissecting complex programs into manageable streams. She has a background of eight years in architecture, with a primary focus on the retail and educational sectors, and two years in management consultancy. In her spare time, she writes stories, reads almost anything she gets her hands on, delivers creative writing curriculums and workshops for independent organizations, and helps literary agents review manuscripts prior to publishing.
She is also the founder of wrichitects, an educational platform dedicated to fostering storytelling in the region. Recognizing the interconnectedness of architecture and storytelling, wrichitects was established to assist architects and designers in expressing their projects from a creative storytelling perspective. The platform aims to ignite a love for writing and encourage individuals to embrace the art of storytelling.
