Inspired by Art: A Guided Tour of “One Hundred Years of Painting” and Writing Workshop

Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2024

Time: 7:00 pm

Duration: 90 minutes

Registration fee: 35 AED

This event will begin with a tour of Kutubna Cultural Center’s latest exhibit “One Hundred Years of Painting: Arab Art from 1916 to 2017” which showcases a group of paintings selected from two collections of Arab art in Dubai: The International House Group collection and Al Noon Residences collection. The exhibit spotlights the work of important artists from the history of art that emerged from Arab countries. The collection brings to light the evolution of painting in the region and includes various styles of painting, from cubism such as “Red Rooster” by Shaker Hassan (Iraq) and abstract works such as “View of Qannoubine Valley” by Saliba Douaihy (Lebanon) to realism such as “Bride of the Nile” by Farghali Abdel Hafez (Egypt) and “Persons” by Fateh Moudarres (Syria).

The tour will be followed by a writing workshop. Participants will be given the space to reflect and explore concepts, thoughts, feelings, and/or memories evoked by the art. The purpose of the workshop is to highlight and celebrate regional artworks through written engagements. Prompts will be provided, and participants are welcome to write in any way they like. The session will end with a brief discussion at which time participants are encouraged to share their overall experience.
